How
to make up curtains with Solar Tape and Jupiter Rings |
|
Stage 1. The
Tape |
|
Starting with the
reverse of the fabric facing towards you, hem the left
hand side of your fabric first with a maximum hem of 2
cm. Line the Solar Tape up to the hem and position the
green marker at the edge of the fabric, or if the
fabric is not a standard width (54") make sure the
green markers are of equal distance on either side of
the curtain. Cut the tape 2 cm to the left of the green
marker as illustrated (to turn and hem the tape) |
 |
|
From the starting point, smooth
the tape along the fabric, turn and side hem the right
hand side of the fabric to the nearest green marker on
the tape. Turn and press a 6 mm hem at the top of the
curtain. If lining your curtain, only take the lining to
the bottom row of stitching on the tape.
Starting from the left side of the
curtain, turn the tape under to the starting point i.e.
the green marker and pin in place. Continue across the
curtain smoothing and pinning the tape down. At the
right hand edge of the curtain free 3 - 5 cm of cords
for the eventual pleating of the curtain. Cut the tape 2
cm to the right of the green marker, turn under and pin
in position. Machine the tape to the fabric along the
yellow sewing lines, leaving 3 mm between the top of the
tape and the top the curtain. The top and bottom rows
must be stitched in the same direction. Sew both the
tapes and the top of the curtain. The top and bottom
rows must be stitched in the same direction. Sew both
edges of the tape but do not sew over the free cords for
the pleating. |
|
Stage 2. The
Rings |
|
With the right
side facing and using sharp scissors, carefully cut away
the fabric from the inside of the eyelets. Do not worry
about fraying: the Rufflette Jupiter Rings will hide any
untidy edges. |
|
 |
 |
|
Attach the rings
before pleating the curtain. To open the Jupiter rings
insert a flat head screwdriver into the notch on the
ring and carefully ease apart. Place the side of the
rings with the spikes on to the front of the fabric and
the second side underneath and clip together being
careful not to trap the woven strips on the Solar Tape
in the ring. Repeat across the fabric. |
|
Stage 3.
Pleating the
Tape |
|
To pleat the
curtain hold the drawcord in one hand and push the
bottom woven strip into position as illustrated. Repeat
this with the bottom woven strip. Advance to the second
set of woven strips and push these into position the
same way as the first. Return to the first set, as these
will no longer be pleated, and pleat again repeating
along the curtain until the whole curtain is pleated.
Tie a slip knot to hold. Do not cut off surplus cords as
they allow the curtain to be pulled flat for cleaning.
Loose cords should be wound neatly out of sight on a
Rufflette Cord Tidy . |
 |
|
Before cleaning,
gently remove the Rufflette Jupiter Rings from the
curtain using a flat headed screwdriver. |
